We currently repair about 80 - 100 combi boilers a month. As a Preferred Contractor to many of the largest insurance companies, our Corgi registered engineers are used to diagnosing your boiler problems and effecting a clean and hassle free repair. We have a policy of repair first if appropriate, then replace. This often saves our clients hundreds of pounds and sets us apart from many of our competitors who would automatically recommend changing the boiler. From the 1st April 2004 it became a requirement of the building regulations Part P, that at the time of replacement of a new boiler for it to be a condensing boiler system. Condensing boilers are highly efficient and incorporate an extra heat exchanger so that the hot exhaust gases lose much of their energy to pre heat the water in the boiler system. When installing a Condensing boiler it will be necessary fit a condensate drain off to a suitable waste pipe. It is also required that Thermostatic Radiator Valves and a room thermostat is also fitted at the time of installation.

A conventional boiler system incorporates a boiler, hot water storage tank, cold water storage tank and a feed and expansion tank. The last 2 are usually found in your loft. These systems are not space efficient especially when converting a loft or needing the space for storage. These systems are often converted into combination boiler systems especially in flats or to "megaflow" systems in bigger properties. The best solution is achieved by asking us to give you a free survey and estimate for the compatibility of your requirements.

"Megaflow" is a generic term for a mains pressured cylinder. A mains pressured cylinder allows the hot water in your property to be obtained at the same pressure as your incoming cold water mains pipe. There are many makes, prices and sizes for these cylinders and Permanex Plumbing is best suited to give you an unbiased opinion of the type that will suite you best. Electric boilers are used mainly when there is no gas coming into the property. They are not currently widely used, however in new build properties and due to the increasing cost of non renewable energy, there are becoming more popular. They are very space efficient and provide useful solutions when space is at a premium. Another form of electric boiler is a direct "megaflow" cylinder which supplies hot water at mains pressure but the water is heated up by way of electric element inside the cylinder.
